Registration for the 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend opens with new race and enhancements for runners

Mickey and I showing off my Walt Disney World Marathon Medal from this years event - my FIRST EVER Marathon - In 2014 I am going "DOPEY!"

Registration is now open for the 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon which expands with a new race, and promises improvements for runners across the event.

The first of the big changes for 2014 is the introduction of the Walt Disney World 10K. The 6.2 mile timed race takes place on the Friday at Epcot, featuring a Minnie Mouse inspired finishers medal. With this addition comes a new challenge - 'The Dopey Challenge'. To successfully complete this challenge, runners will need to complete all four timed races (5K, 10K, Half, Full). This means that runners can now earn a total of 6 medals!

Also announced are improvements to the weekend aimed at providing a better race experience for runners. runDisney has said they will be:
  • reducing the number of runners that we are registering for the weekend, in an effort to allow more space on the course.
  • asking the vast majority of our runners to provide proof of time (if they have it), so we can accurately place runners of the same pace in the same corral.
  • adding additional corrals, with fewer people in each corral, to spread the runners across the course.
  • keeping the marathon course that was introduced last year for the 20th anniversary.
  • offering women’s cut tech shirts (in addition to the men’s cut) for the 10K, half, full, Dopey Challenge and Goofy Challenge.

The Art of Topiary Gardening from Walt Disney World Resort

Topiary gardening, the art of fashioning living plan into ornamental shapes, has been practiced for centuries. Found throughout the gardens of the Walt Disney World Resort are hundreds of topiary figures, ranging from traditional hedges and sheared trees to fanciful shapes and a whole menagerie of "chlorophyll" Disney characters. Types of Topiary Four different types of topiary at the Walt Disney World resort have developed out of our desire to put on an award-winning horticultural show. Free-form topiary and standard form topiary require your imagination and some sharp shears - the other two utilize a frame specially suited to their needs. A lightweight frame is used for shrub topiary, while sphagnum topiary require a much stronger frame specially designed to support the weight of the figure. Standard Form Topiary The world standard is used to describe a plant that is grown to a designated height and then encouraged to bush or form a "head" at t...

"We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths". - Walt Disney

Greetings, fellow Disney enthusiasts! I would like to extend my sincerest apologies for my prolonged absence from the website. Due to recent personal and professional changes, I have had to prioritize certain aspects of my life over my beloved hobby. Magic Kingdom to open for 24 hours on Memorial Day Weekend

Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort will kick off a Monstrous Summer by keeping three theme parks open for 24 hours nonstop on Memorial Day Weekend, the traditional start of the family travel season. The three-park all-night party is happening at the Magic Kingdom Park in Florida and Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park in California. The parks will stay open from 6 a.m., May 24 to 6 a.m., May 25, 2013, local time. In Florida, Magic Kingdom Park will feature a “Monsters University” theme where Mike and Sulley will be the Grand Marshals of the “Celebrate a Dream Come True” day parade and make appearances in Tomorrowland. There will be extra entertainment throughout the day and night, including characters in their pajamas in Town Square during the late night and early morning, and late-night dance parties in and around the courtyard of Cinderella Castle.
